Job responsibilities: Performing moderately complex substance abuse education work within the DWI/SAFPF/ISF programs. Work involves planning, coordinating and implementing substance abuse education activities as well as coordinating with other departments to ensure the maximum utilization for resources available.

Essential functions:

  1. Ensure safety and well-being of offenders by continuously supervising therapeutic and recreational activities. Monitors offender break periods and movement. Intervenes as necessary to control or channel inappropriate behaviors. Makes rounds, takes census counts and so forth. Reports missing offenders or physical symptoms to appropriate personnel and records improvement of same in accordance with program expectations.

  2. Provides didactic sessions according to designated curricula within the program. Presents chemical dependency education and life skills classes to assist offenders with basic education on these topics.

  3. Guides and assists clients in complying with facility rules and regulations. Supervises client offender work functions in accordance with program policies such as morning wake up routines according to established schedules. Notifies appropriate personnel of offenders failing to comply with policies and procedures.

  4. Monitors offender behavior and reports incidents, inappropriate or unusual behaviors to appropriate treatment team staff.

  5. Updates and maintains offender records which include recording direct and indirect hours, therapeutic treatments, activity or group participation, job readiness progress and so forth in accordance with all local, state and federal contractual requirements.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.

  • Current registration in, or completion of, a substance abuse practicum program is preferred.

  • A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
