Position : Medical Assistant

Location: 805 N Avenue F, Post, TX 79356

Employment type: Full-time

Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p OR 7:00-7:00 days or nights

Facility setting: Ambulatory-like setting with short-stays and urgent care

Position summary: A medical assistant performs technical duties in the field of patient care and participates in the general healthcare of patients. Assists licensed staff in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating movement of inmate/patients to and from different areas for medical treatment.

  • Take and record vital signs and medical history of assigned patients.

  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist nurse or provider during examination.

  • Work efficiently to ensure providers have seamless flow of patients, and supplies, charts and equipment arereadily available.

  • Explain treatment procedures to patients; provide education on condition, treatment or treatment plan.

  • Properly chart medical care consistent with scope of practice and ensure completeness and accuracy of entries.

  • Assist with medication and/or sharps counts when necessary.

  • Provide assistance to patients as instructed, and accurately enter treatment provided in medical record.

  • Perform complex and technical procedures under nursing supervision, such as: unsterile dressing changes superficial wound care, performing urine and finger stick glucose tests.

  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe, comfortable facility environment; obtain and store medical supplies; clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.

  • Perform CPR when necessary. Maintain current certification.

  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required.

  • Reliably and repetitively identify inmates by visual means and verification of inmate identification numbers

Experience and education requirements:

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.

  • Current medical assistant certification or registry from an accredited medical assistant program recognized by the state of Texas is required.

  • CPR certification is necessary.

  • A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required.
