MTC Registered Nurse III in Raymondville, Texas

Overview

Pay Rate: $38.88 per hour.

Employment Type: Full-time, Direct hire

Work Schedule: 12 Hour Shifts (7-730), rotating weekends.

Position Summary:

Reports administratively to the director of nursing and clinically to the facility physician. Performs duties.

concerned with the care of the sick and injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health in

compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Attend sick call with the physicians to see detainees; prepare examining room and equipment.

  2. Call the physician for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.

  3. Operate pill call, administer medication and accurately and completely document treatment as required

by applicable policies and procedures.

  1. Examine and assess detainees with illnesses or injuries or detainees who become ill or injured; confer

with physician to refer detainees to the emergency room as required by their condition and document in

medical record or other forms as appropriate

  1. Maintain clean work area; use or direct the use of appropriate sanitation methods.

  2. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for detainee care and facility operations.

  3. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Observe applicable HIPAA rules.

  4. Review medical files to determine all provided services are documented.

  5. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.

  6. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.

  7. Observe and record detainee behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation

  8. Inspect medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by detainees; securely store or safely

dispose of supplies and equipment. Control medication, syringes, or other medical supplies.

  1. Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.

  2. Provide health counseling and health education on individual or group basis, as required.

  3. Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary and operational records, reports and logs.

  4. Assist corporate counsel with responses to detainee lawsuits.

  5. Attend scheduled staff meetings, promote communications and flow of relevant information in the

medical unit.

  1. Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures; take

appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.

  1. Properly chart medical care.

  2. May be assigned to medical observation area.

Position Description

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as

determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Degree in nursing, current, valid nursing RN license in the state of Texas or a compact state. Must possess

current CPR certification. Must work within Texas state board of nursing scope of practice. Must successfully

complete required pre service training. Valid drivers license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving

record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
